Delhi mayor elections now on Feb 16 after 3 failed attempts

Delhi mayor elections: LG VK Saxena has accepted the AAP government’s proposed date of February 16 for the next session of the MCD House which will make the 4th attempt to elect the mayor.

After the municipal house failed to elect a mayor for the third time, Delhi LG VK Saxena approved the next session of the MCD House on February 16 for the Delhi mayor elections to the post of mayor. The date  suggested by the Delhi government and approved by the LG.

On February 13, the Supreme Court is anticipated to hear a request for time-bound elections made by two AAP leaders who are disputing the decision of the presiding officer to allow the nominated members (aldermen) to vote in the mayor’s race and hold elections for the positions of mayor, deputy mayor, and standing committee members on a single ballot.

On January 6, January 24, and February 6, the MCD convened three times to elect a mayor, but each meeting ended in a deadlock.

The election canceled at the first meeting after an altercation between AAP and BJP council members. In the house for the second meeting on January 24 was a similar image. But oaths given to the elected and nominated members. The third meeting ended after 45 minutes due to fighting between the BJP and AAP council members.
