Coming from a Tamil family, Mithali wanted to become a Kathak dancer as a child. Its effect was that at the age of just 8, she became an expert in classical dance. However, later Mithali’s father started finding the daughter a bit lazy, so he started taking Mithali to play cricket with him. Mithali Raj started her professional career in cricket then.

When she was only 16 years old. She played his first match in 1999 against Ireland. However, even before her cricket debut, in 1997, her name was included in the probables for the Women’s Cricket World Cup. But due to some reason she did not get a place in the World Cup. Mithali scored 114 not out in her first match. Mithali Raj played her first test match on 14 January 2002 against England in Lucknow and in her third test match itself she played a historic innings of 214 not out.

During her brilliant innings, she broke Karen Rolton’s record of 209 runs. Mithali is the first Indian woman cricketer to score more than 5500 runs in ODIs. Apart from this, she has also captained India in most matches. Her high score in test matches is 214 runs. Apart from Test and ODI matches, Mithali Raj has also played 89 T20 matches.

Mithali has also received many awards for her strong game.
