Germany’s famous luxury car maker BMW has officially launched its latest electric car BMW i4 in the Indian market. The starting price of the BMW i4 all-electric sedan has been fixed at Rs 69.90 lakh, ex-showroom. The BMW i4 Electric Car is a 4-door coupe car. The BMW i4 sedan was showcased at the India Art Fair in Delhi, where it grabbed a lot of attention. The car is available in two variants – eDrive 40 and M50 xDrive.

The first luxury electric sedan.

This is the first electric sedan in the luxury segment in the Indian car market. Along with this, the BMW i4 is the second electric car from BMW to be launched in the Indian market. Earlier, the company launched the BMW iX electric SUV in December 2021.

In terms of exterior look and design, the new BMW i4 electric car looks similar to the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe car. Based on BMW’s CLAR architecture, the BMW i4 is a modified all-electric version of the 4-Series Gran Coupe. The similarities between the two models are visible through the styling of the latest electric luxury sedan. Like other contemporary models, it gets an attractive front grille in the company’s signature kidney shape. Being an electric car, it gets a body plate instead of a mesh grill. The front fascia gets sleek Corona LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. Talking about the overall size of the car, this car is 4,783 mm long, 1,852 mm wide and 1,448 mm high. The i4 electric car gets a wheelbase of 2,856 mm.

Strong Features.

Coming to the interior and cabin of the BMW i4, the most notable feature is the brand’s curved dual-screen display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In this, BMW’s latest Drive 8 user interface has been given. The company provides OTA software updates for this digital infotainment system. Other features include wireless charging, automatic climate control, electronic front seats with cooling function, electric sunroof and many other connected car features.

Engine power and range.

According to the details listed on the company’s official website, the new eDrive40 version has an 83.9kWh battery pack. This powers the electric motor that powers the rear wheels of the car. This electric motor generates maximum power of 335bhp and peak torque of 430Nm. With the help of this motor, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds. According to the company, this battery pack can give a range of 521 km on a single cycle (WLTP certified) in one full charge.

Power and range of the M50 xDrive variant.

While the higher-spec variant of the car, the i4 M50 xDrive AWD, is a sportier version and comes equipped with dual electric motors that power each axle. It supports maximum power of 544bhp and peak torque of 795Nm. Looking at the higher output, the car takes just 3.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph. However, it has an overall range of 590 km (WLTP).

Competition.

The BMW i4 electric car does not directly compete with any car in the Indian market. Rather, the higher-spec version of the M50 xDrive competes with the entry-level variants of the Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan.
