The country’s leading luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India on Wednesday officially launched its new generation C-Class in India. The company says that the Mercedes-Benz C-Class 2022 sets a new benchmark in luxury and technology in the luxury sedan segment. The new C-Class (W206) marks Mercedes-Benz’s significant progress in creating a world-class product that, apart from being highly digital and sustainable, comes with the most luxurious package of luxurious comfort and sportiness.
Variants and Price.
The fifth generation new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been launched in three variants. That includes the C200 and C220d in addition to the top-of-the-line C300d. The ex-showroom price of the C200 variant is Rs 55 lakh. Whereas, the C220d and C300d diesel variants have been priced at Rs 56 lakh and Rs 61 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.
A key addition to the sedan portfolio.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is positioned above the A-Class Limousine. But the company’s sedan comes under the extremely popular E-Class in the portfolio. In recent times, the Germans have emphasized the popularity of both their sedans and SUVs and both have performed quite well.
Company statement.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “The C-Class has enjoyed a strong customer preference with over 37,000 C-Class customers in India. Unprecedented customer interest has exceeded our expectations. , which has resulted in over 1000 confirmed bookings for the ‘Baby S’ even before its launch, making it one of the most anticipated luxury cars to be introduced in the market today. Get our customers across the board at the earliest. The new C-Class marks the aggressive launch of our products in the market this year.”
Large in size.
The new C-Class is bigger in size than its previous model. The new C-Class is now 65 mm longer and measures 4,751 mm in length and 1,820 mm in width. Its wheelbase length is 2,865 mm. Now it has a 25 mm longer wheelbase, which gives 21 mm more room for the passengers in the cabin.
Engine and power.
The new C-Class C 200 variant gets a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the C 220d and C 300d variants get a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine. The C200 variant generates maximum power of 204 hp and peak torque of 300 Nm. While the C220d variant generates 200 hp power and 440 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre diesel engine in the C300d range produces 265 bhp and 550 Nm.
Gearbox.
All these engines are also mated with 48V Integrated Starter Generator Technology. A 9-speed automatic transmission unit has been given with these engines.
Speed.
Mercedes claims that the new C-Class C200 and C220d variants can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds. Whereas the top-spec C300d can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds.
Cabin and interior.
Coming to the cabin, the C200 and C220d get three upholstery color options in Sienna Brown, Black and Macchiato Beige. The C300d gets two-tone Sienna Brown/Black and all-black color options. The C-Class gets 17-inch alloy wheels with the 300d being based on the AMG line with 18-inch 5-spoke alloys. The sedan also gets Scheel LED headlights with integrated DRLs, a new grille and a new split LED taillight.
Color option.
The new 2022 C-Class has been launched with 6 color options. The Mercedes C300d will get three exterior paint schemes, which include Manufacture Opalite White, Cavansite Blue and Obsidian Black. Apart from these three color options, the lower two variants of the C-Class C200 and C220d will get three more color options along with the colors of Celestine Grey, Mojave Silver and Hi-Tech Silver.
Fantastic features.
The interiors of the new C-Class also get several updates. The cabin will get three color theme options which include Macchiato Beige and Sienna Brown and Black with wood trim or metal trim. At the center of the dashboard is an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest MBUX system and a 12.3-inch full-digital instrument cluster. Like the S-Class, the infotainment screen features a biometric scanner for users to save their profiles along with a fingerprint scanner. It comes with features like redesigned air vents, dual-zone climate control, large panoramic sunroof, armrests for rear passengers, wireless charging, connected car technology, Burmester sound system, among others.
Competition.
The luxury features have been enhanced in the C-Class, which will bring it closer to the E-Class and the top-of-the-line S-Class. Mercedes hopes that its newly updated sedan will find more buyers than ever before. The new C-Class will compete with cars like the Volvo S60, BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4.
