IndiGo Airlines : DGCA action on Ranchi airport incident
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on private airline Indigo. The company is accuse of not allowing a disabled child to board the flight at Ranchi airport in Jharkhand. The incident happened on 7th May. The incident came to light at Ranchi airport while boarding a flight to Hyderabad. After the incident other family members of the child decided not to board the flight.
The handicapped child was prevent from boarding the flight.
The DGCA says that based on the findings during the investigation. A show cause notice was issued to IndiGo airline through its authorized representative. It was learned that the IndiGo ground staff could not handle the handicapped child and made the situation sensitive and difficult when the child was prevented from boarding the flight.

DGCA said in its statement –
“Not only would the situation have brought under control by the compassionate behavior of the ground staff, but by pacifying the child, he would not have denied boarding nor would such dire situations have arisen. The airline staff failed to fulfill their responsibility on that occasion. Keeping this in view, the competent authority in DGCA has decided to impose a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the airline.”

Let us inform that after this matter came to light in the media on May 08, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya had taken cognizance of it and said to investigate the matter himself. He ordered an inquiry into the matter and a fact finding committee was form. On May 16, the DGCA issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo airline for the May 7 incident. The incident was record by other passengers present there, which went viral on social media.
